Help! MediaWiki FrankenSpammer bot attacks

 Folks, anyone know what is going on and more importantly, how to stop it?

Check out these wiki that I work on, specifically the bot looking login spammer:

    Install the ConfirmEdit extension to force users to enter a captcha when trying to add external links to a page.

    I’d also suggest allowing unregistered users to edit. If you don’t, the spam bots will make accounts which floods your userlist and makes it harder to filter out the genuine users from the spammers. Liberally assigning rollback privileges will enable your community to revert this more easily.

    I was going to say install captchas as well, but Angela beat me to it ;)
